Kootenay ʔa·kinq̓uku TREX
Kootenay ʔa·kinq̓uku TREX will be held in the Canal Flats area of B.C., delivered in partnership by the BC Wildfire Service and Ktunaxa First Nation, with support from the First Nations’ Emergency Services Society and UBC Okanagan’s Canadian Prescribed Fire Training Program.
This delivery of the third Kootenay-based prescribed fire training exchange (TREX) will bring together wildfire management professionals, Indigenous fire stewards, prescribed fire practitioners, and a range of other partners to strengthen skills, collaboration, and shared understanding of prescribed fire implementation. Kootenay ʔa·kinq̓uku TREX will focus on experiential learning opportunities on live prescribed fire projects highlighting safe and effective fire use with a focus on prescribed fire planning, ignition, holding, and monitoring practices. Additional learning opportunities will include guest speakers, field trips, and peer-to-peer engagement.
