SUMMARY:Adapting Together: Shaping the Future of Fire in the Northwest
DESCRIPTION:March 4th-6th 2026 at Skamania Lodge\, Stevenson\, WA\, in the Columbia River Gorge   \nJoin Oregon State University\, the Fire Adapted Communities Network\, and partners for an engaging workshop to transform how we adapt and coexist with wildfire in light of dynamic ecological\, social\, and economic challenges. As new fire policies and adaptation strategies have grown across the Northwest\, it is essential that we work together to learn\, share\, and craft actionable visions. The workshop will be a space that honors wildfire adaptation as a collective and long-term journey involving diverse voices\, generations\, roles\, and experiences. Expect a mix of panels\, learning circles\, case studies\, interactive activities\, and informal time to connect. Come ready to imagine and engage. \nThis event is for students\, early career professionals\, nonprofit organizations\, agencies\, scientists\, practitioners\, Tribes\, and policy makers involved in wildfire adaptation in northern California\, Oregon\, Washington\, Idaho\, and Montana.    \nThe following key questions will be woven through this event: \n\nWhat is the work of fire adaptation? Who is and who should be doing it\, and how do we pay for it?\nHow do we maintain and grow a focus on fire as an ecological process and cultural function while protecting communities?\nWhat kinds of local partnerships and state-level strategies will help us become more fire-adapted?\nIn the next five and ten years\, who all needs to work together and how so that we collectively adapt to fire?\nHow can strategies from this workshop be advanced through existing networks and coalitions to achieve meaningful results?\n\nWhether you’re shaping fire policy\, stewarding the land\, engaging your community\, or learning where to start\, your voice matters here. This is our moment to co-create the future of fire in the Northwest—please join us! \nSponsorship opportunities will be shared soon. Registration will open in September 2025 and be capped at 250 participants. \nThe agenda at a glace and registration is now live: https://fireworkshop.forestry.oregonstate.edu/registration
