DESCRIPTION:Course Dates: November 3-7\, 2025 \nCourse Location: 100% Virtual Instructor-Led Webinar (Zoom and WFLP) \nTuition: $0 \nNational Training Delivery Team (NDT) Program Manager:  \nLiz Figgins; liz.figgins@nafri.gov \nCourse Description:  \nThis course leads students through the ecological and historical role of fire\, characteristics of smoke and the health\, safety and visibility impacts of smoke. Other topics include public relations\, legal requirements\, meteorology\, fuel consumption\, smoke production dispersion modeling\, and operational smoke management strategies. This course is designed to be interactive in nature. It contains a panel discussion\, several exercises designed to facilitate group and class participation and case studies from a variety of fuel types and political challenges. The pre-course work assignment is designed to familiarize students with the NWCG Smoke Management Guide for Prescribed Fire\, PMS 420-2\, and air quality regulations that impact prescribed fire programs. \nTarget Group:  \nPrescribed Fire Burn Boss Type 1 (RXB1)\, Prescribed Fire Burn Boss Type 2 (RXB2)\, and the Long Term Fire Analyst (LTAN). Other positions that would benefit from RX-410 include Fire Effects Monitor (FEMO)\, air regulators\, fire ecologists\, private landowners\, other state and private agencies\, prescribed fire consultants\, fire planners. \nTotal Hours:  \nPre-course work: 2 hours \nAsynchronous/Virtual Instructor-Led Training: 32 hours \nCourse Total: 34 hours \nRX-410 Prerequisites:  \nStudents should have a background in prescribed fire planning\, implementing\, monitoring\, permitting or smoke/air regulating. \nSatisfactory completion of pre-course work. \nNominations: \nNominees must meet the prerequisites and obtain a Wildland Fire Learning Portal Account prior to nomination. SUMMARY:2025 Southern Area Engine Academy Training
DESCRIPTION:Location: Wekiwa Springs State Park\, FL\nCourse Dates: November 7-13th\, 2025\nCost: $600 (registration fee)\nNomination Deadline: September 11th\, 2025 \nCourse Description:\nSouthern Area Engine Academy is an interagency course targeting supervisors and crew personnel responsible for initial attack and tactical decision-making in the suppression of wildfire and the management of prescribed fire. This course will give the student a solid grounding in the safe and effective use of a variety of water handling equipment and related tactics. \nThe class is taught by instructors through lectures\, visual aids and field\nexercises. They will focus on teaching the application of hydraulics\,\nengine operations\, water-handling equipment\, engine tactics and\nwildland fire safety. This class is highly labor intensive with about 1\ninstructor for every 2.5 students. \nStudents are given the opportunity to work on engine teams of 3 people and will have an engine coach assigned to their team for the entire week. Students experience 10 -12 different engines from multiple agencies. \nRequirements:\nThe prerequisites for the class are as follows:\n-Completion of the following courses: S130\, S190\, and I100\n-Having 2 or more years’ experience as a firefighter and/or participated on at least 10 burns as crew member.\n-Plus\, have a current pack test and current shelter test (based on your agency requirements). \nThere will be course pre-work which is approximately 8 hours of reading and study for the S211 class prior to attendance at the academy. \nAll students are required to stay on site for the duration of\nacademy. Lodging and meals will be provided. Some students\nwill be required to bring engines to the class.
