2026 Loup TREX
March 15 - March 28
This is it. From 2009 until now, the Loup TREX has been running full steam annually. Since then the TREX has helped provide valuable training to hundreds of fire practitioners and directly impacted over 35,000 acres. It has been a great run and for years has served as a wonderful and powerful starting block for local fire capacity to lean into and build from and now, it’s time to hang it up. The LAST LOUP TREX will occur March 15 to March 28, 2026.
The 2026 Loup TREX will be based in Ord, Nebraska (popl 2,200). This event will be conducted as a federal incident with corresponding incident numbers available and associated training opportunities. The Loup TREX prides itself as a daily, active learning environment, with live-fire prescribed fire training over large areas, while engaging with other classroom and community-based learning and sharing opportunities on non-fire days. We will be directly targeting about 3,500 acres northeast of Ord, while also integrating with local Prescribed Burn Associations and making ourselves available to area wildfire response as opportunities arise and fit with our event priorities and responsibilities. During this event, participants can expect to be exposed to Great Plains natural history and fire history, contemporary fire practitioners and practices, large fire (>1,000 acres) fire strategies, and also have opportunities to share fire philosophies and strategies from their own home unit and landscape. Event hosts and cadre from other TREX events are encouraged to consider joining us for a unique perspective of a TREX event in its sunset.
Please see the announcement and registration form for more details. Registration deadline is February 16.
